Orville Earl Fankhouser, 84, (known as Earl O. Fankhouser) went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 17, 2012 at Elms Haven Care Center in Thornton, CO.
He was the son of Orville B. (Slim) and Alice (Johnston) Fankhouser, born in Boone, Colorado on August 12, 1928.
Earl attended school in Kansas and LaJunta, CO until he turned 17 when he joined the US Navy where he honorably served for four years as an electrician’s mate. After his discharge, he became a lineman for Rural Electric Association in La Junta. In February 1953, Earl started his career with Public Service Co. of Colorado in Leadville, CO. He transferred to the Brighton office in February 1954, where he remained until his retirement on July 1, 1989.
Earl and Dorothy Miller were married in 1950. Three daughters, Lorraine, Linda and Lois were born to them. Ear and Darlene (Kreutzer) Harper were married March 21, 1982. They loved to travel in their motorhome and toured most of the United States, Canada and Mexico. They also vacationed in Japan, visiting a nephew and family stationed there in the US Navy.
Earl was a member of Four Way Baptist Church, Past Master of the Masonic Lodge in Ft. Lupton, a member of El Jebel Shrine (Truman group) and Brighton Elks Lodge #1586.
Earl was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Franklin R, Edward L, Allen J, Vernon B and Raymond D; sisters, Margueritte Rolando, Wilma Roberson, Winnie Thomas and grandson, J. David Russell.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene; sister, Berniece Lamson of Big Lake, AK; daughters, Lorraine Weaver of Norman, OK, Linda (Mike) Russell of Tucumcari, NM and Lois (Gary) Reed of Bardstown, KY; four grandchildren, Larry, William, Shannon and Dustin; 11 great-grandchildren. Other survivors include his step-sons, Michael (Kathy) Harper and Terry (Deborah) Harper; step-daughter, Janice (Phil) Croft; six step-grandchildren, Brian, Julie, Daniel, Sabrina, Alison and David and six great-step-grandchildren. He also leaves a host of nephews, nieces and extended family and many friends.
Military Services were held December 3, 2012 at Ft. Logan National Cemetery.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, December 13, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at FourWay Baptist Church, 9966 County Road 41, Ft. Lupton, Colorado.
Memorial Contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Four Way Baptist Church Memorial Fund.
