Margaret “Bea” (Mascarenas) Montoya was born on October 7, 1953 in Brighton, CO to Gabriel and Josephine (Salazar) Mascarenas. She was the eldest of five siblings, Grace, Gabe Jr., Bernie and Ed (Marlana). She grew up in the Brighton area.
She married Danny Montoya on August 8, 1970. This union was blessed with three children: Renee, Danielle (Chet) and Jeremy; six grandchildren Justin, Jaxon, Tristan, Jet, Tenley and Tava; and two great grandchildren Marae-lee and Jaelynn.
Bea loved her family, extended family and friends dearly and loved spending time with them. She thoroughly enjoyed watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren grow and form their own personalities. She loved playing with them, watching movies with them and reading with them but most of all she loved laughing with them. She always said there was a different kind of love that one has for their grandkids that can’t be explained.
She was employed by the state for the 17th Judicial District at the Adam’s County Justice Center and retired in 2010 after 31 years of service. She earned the respect of judges, attorneys and colleagues alike.
On June 6, 2018 Bea suffered a heart attack and died peacefully in her sleep. She was preceded in death and welcomed at Heaven’s gate by her dad, Gabe and granddaughter, Tava.
Bea was a kind hearted and caring individual, a caring and loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Her caring and compassionate demeanor was evident in how she treated others and gave of herself without hesitation. Her departure from this world has left us with great sorrow and pain but a part of her lives on within us and we take solace in knowing she is dancing and singing at the feet of our Heavenly Father. She will be missed, greatly missed, more than words can describe.
