Marilyn R. Shidler of Brighton died February 7, 2018 in Brighton. She was born in Peetz, Colorado on March 26, 1924 to Harry S. and Elfrieda L. (Norcott) Ayres.
She graduated from Denver Junior Academy in 1942. Not too long after graduation she was introduced to E. Joe Shidler. They shared an interest in roller skating and soon became an item. She married Joe on June 24, 1943 in Yuma, AZ. Soon after, Joe left for the war and Marilyn stayed to start the family.
Following the war, Marilyn followed Joe to Northern California (Pacific Union College) and then to Southern California (Loma Linda University). Marilyn worked various jobs supporting the family during this time. One job she enjoyed was switchboard operator at the White Memorial Hospital. Marilyn was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist church and enjoyed many activities. She was active in Vacation Bible School, Pathfinders, as well as being church secretary.
Her favorite activity was cooking. Summers would find her cooking at the SDA's Glacier View Camp in Peaceful Valley, Colorado. She would spend 4-8 weeks each summer preparing meals. More recently, she was active in food preparation for many of the church functions. Marilyn lost her husband Joe in December of 1996.
She spent her final years enjoying her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents Harry and Elfrieda, her husband Joe, a son Merritt, and her brother Raymond Ayres.
She leaves behind her children Merrill, Jolene, Merlyn, Dianne, and Shawn as well as 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, and a nephew Rodney Ayres.
A memorial service (celebration of life) will be held Monday, February 12, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Brighton Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 567 E Bromley Lane, Brighton Colorado.
