Michael R. Contreras

Michael R. Contreras, 69, of Arvada, Co. passed away in his home on October 21, 2018. He was born in San Francisco, California, January 22, 1949 to Raul Contreras and Janet (Fears) Contreras. Michael attended schools in San Francisco. He married Louise (Post) Contreras on July 27, 1984 in Brighton, Colorado. Mike has one son Jason.

After graduating from high school in 1967 Mike joined the Navy and served on the USS Oriskany CVA-34 “The Mighty O”. Mike served during the Vietnam War till 1971.

Mike attended South Western College and San Diego State in San Diego CA. Mike worked for National Steel as Safety/Security Director. ln 1979 he moved to Colorado, where he worked as Safety /Security Director at Master Craft/Whirlpool Kitchens, Longmont Foods, and Schaffer Commercial. Mike retired in 2005 from safety. He went to work for Costco in Arvada till he retired again in 2014.

Mike loved to camp, fish, cook, grow vegetables and take photos. He and Louise spent free time in North Park camping, fishing, and hunting moose with the camera. Mike loved taking his son Jason, nieces and nephews camping and teaching them to fish. He will be remembered for his mountain cooking, bread making and his famous green chili.

Michael is survived by his wife Louise, married 34 years; son, Jason (Veronica) Contreras; grandchildren, Veronica (Julian) Avila, David, Elyssa, Erica, Emma (grandpa's little pumpkin); and three great grandchildren. “Mom” Virginia Cotter; brothers, James (Jerrilyn) McDonald, Chuck (Mary) Contreras, John (Sherry) McDonald, Jerry (Kim) McDonald, Joe McDonald, Jeff (Ahna) McDonald; sisters Diana (Joe) Heckman, Julie Fanciullacci, Janice McDonald, Jackie Grawe, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is proceeded in death by mother Janet (Fears) McDonald; sisters, Jeanine McDonald, Joyce McDonald; and father Raul Contreras.

Memorial Service will be November 9, 2018 at 2:00 p.m.
