Kimberly Rae Long LaReau, 58, of Brighton, Colorado, died suddenly at home from complications of a kidney ailment on Sunday, August 18, 2019.
Kim was born on September 30, 1960, in Warren, Ohio, to William Robert Long, Sr. and Helen Louise Thomas Long. She was the youngest of six children: Robert Jr. “Bob”, Terry, Bonnie, Melanie, Melinda “Lynn”, and Kimberly “Kim”. She moved with her mother and stepfather to Freeport, Illinois, in 1976 and graduated from Freeport High School in 1978. She talked of how she would love to have attended her 40th reunion last year. After high school, she worked at Micro Switch (a division of Honeywell) and Anchor Harvey in Freeport and then moved with her mother and stepfather to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) for 15 years. Later, she moved to Denver, Colorado, and worked at the Adams County Colorado District Attorney’s office. She was retired at the time of her death.
Kim married Shawn A. LaReau on May 8, 1998, and he survives at home in Brighton along with the animals she loved so much: 5 birds, 1 cat, and a squirrel that she rescued. Many beloved dogs, cats, birds, bunnies, and squirrels have crossed over the “Rainbow Bridge”.
Kim was preceded in death by her father (2012), mother (2013), and stepfather Donald L. Kappas (2012), as well as her brother Bob (2010) and sister Bonnie Regnery (2016). In addition to her husband, she is survived by three of her siblings: Terry Long of Coupeville, WA; Melanie Germann of Wake Forest, NC; and Melinda White of Warren, OH; and many nieces and nephews. Also, Kim has many friends across the country who will miss her tremendously, to name a few: Jeff Brawner of Campbell, CA; Maureen Counts of Hendersonville, TN; Jayne Crawford and family of Brighton, CO; Lauri Karl Gillespie of Freeport, IL; Sherri Post Kramer of West Jefferson, OH; and Amy Schwab Lloyd and daughter Alexa of State College, PA.
Kim had a life-long love for all animals. Please consider making a contribution to your local animal rescue group in her memory. Kim would have loved that so much.
