Manuel N. Rivas was born on June 28, 1947, to Evangelina Najera Morales and Jose Rivas Ruiz in Durango, Mexico, in the small ranch town of San Jose.
Manuel migrated with his wife Maria C. Alvarado and their seven children to the United States in the early 1980’s. First moving the Albuquerque, New Mexico and then to northern Colorado. Manuel worked at several farm jobs and ultimately retired from Longmont Foods.
After retirement, Manuel dedicated his time to caring for his wife who had been diagnosed with cancer in 1998. Manuel loved working outside on the farm and especially grooming the lawn and the flowers of his beautiful garden.
Manuel and Maria owned several apple orchards in Mexico and enjoyed returning during the harvest and festival seasons. Manuel enjoyed returning to Durango, Mexico, especially during the “Feria de la Manzana” (apple fair) in Canatlan, Durango.
Manuel was preceded in death by his wife; Maria in 2013 and their youngest son; Francisco “Pino” Rivas in 1993. He is survived by his sons; Arturo Rivas, Manuel Rivas, daughters; Bianca Margarita Rivas (Ruiz), Rosenda Rivas, Ana Lilia Rivas (Balderas), Laura Elena Rivas (Requejo) as well as 18 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren
