Shirley Amend Obituary

Shirley Amend passed away on September 22, 2019 in Brighton, Colorado. She was born on April 1, 1921 in Chattanooga, Tennessee to Cleve and Carrie (Alvey) Mount.  Shirley was a High School graduate and upon completing her schooling she married Leonard Amend.

Shirley worked various clerk jobs throughout her life, one being at J.C. Penney and the other as an employee the City of Brighton as a water deputy clerk. She also assisted her husband on the farm with milking cows, driving hay trucks, driving the truck during corn harvest and bagging pickles and corn. She was a certified upholsterer and was very active with her children, youth and adult teaching at Brighton 1st Baptist Church. Shirley even found time to sing beautifully for the church choir. Shirley was a hard working woman whom always went above and beyond the expected criteria of her regular jobs to make sure everyone around her received a helping hand.

Shirley is survived by her spouse, Leonard Amend; daughter, Linda Bergman; son, Richard Amend; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.  She is preceded in death by her son, Christopher Amend; along with her sister, Estella Freeman and brother, Alfred Mount.

Graveside services honoring Shirley will be on Monday, September 30, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. at Elmwood Cemetery, in Brighton, Colorado.
