The proud son of a D-Day Veteran, Abel answered the call of duty when he was drafted into the United States Army in 1970 to fight in the Vietnam War. After returning from war, he worked as a laborer until he decided to reenlist in the Army in 1984 and would proudly continue in service to his country until he retired from the Army as an Army Staff Sargent in August of 2002.
