Adelida Gertrude Montoya, age 88, passed away peacefully on April 17, 2021, at her residence in Brighton, Colorado, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on January 8, 1933, also in Brighton to Bernardo and Adelida (Cruz) Mascarenas, where she attended schools and ultimately raised a family and spent her entire life. She married Nicholas Montoya on May 10, 1954.
For labor Adelida worked a few different jobs. She spent many years at K.L. Smith Enterprises and JCPenny’s until her retirement.
In good times and in bad, Adelida was always a very happy person and you could always catch her boasting a beautiful smile, for she was very content with her life and never complained about they way it transpired. Adelida loved to go on walks and she adored her family members and spending quality time with them. She also loved to sew and would make doilies and pot holders as a specialty, creating orgami and sending prayer cards to her family. She was also a woman of God and took great pride in her Catholic faith.
Adelida is survived by seven children: Nick (Karolyn), Gilda, Joann (Robert), Karen, Linda, Dianne, and Robert (Luanne); along with one sibling, Sharon Romero; 20 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. She is preceded in passing by both her mother and father, Bernardo and Adelida (Cruz) Mascarenas; husband, Nicholas Montoya; along with a daughter, Marcia; and nine siblings: John, Henry, Joe, Ben, Lloyd, Gabriel, Flora, Pete, Jimmy, and Mary.
