Alan Richard Schoenenberger
February 21, 1946 – February 13, 2025
Alan Richard Schoenenberger, a true patriot at heart, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2025, in Keenesburg, Colorado, just shy of his 79th birthday. Born on February 21, 1946, in Stuart, Nebraska, Alan lived a life of adventure and hard work, always dedicated to supporting his wife, daughters, family, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Opal Alice Schoenenberger, father, Chester Joy Schoenenberger, and sister, Myra Jean Hazard. He leaves behind his beloved wife of many years, Diana Lyn Schoenenberger; siblings Jerry Schoenenberger (Milrae), and Alice Joy Stork (Mike); his daughters, Heidi Kayleen Williams (Toby) and Heather Renae Chenault (Jim); grandchildren, Alaina Kristine Shilling (Christian), Michael Anthony Silva (Elizabeth), Nicholas Connor Chenault (Sara), Chloë Grace Williams, and Noah Alan Williams; and great-grandchildren, Caroline, Clayton, and Harper.
Alan proudly served his country as a medic in the Vietnam War, showing the same bravery and dedication in the field as he did in all aspects of his life. His service to others extended far beyond the battlefield, as he was always willing to lend a hand, offer advice, or share a laugh and a cocktail with those around him.
A true cowboy, Alan spent his younger years on the family ranch in Bassett, Nebraska, riding horses, playing with his pet skunk, and competing in rodeos. His love for animals was evident throughout his life, as he cared for dogs, cats, horses, miniature donkeys, and even a mule. An avid outdoorsman, he found joy in hunting, boating, and fishing whenever he had the chance.
Alan was also a pilot and a lifelong racing enthusiast. Whether behind the controls of a plane, the wheel of a boat, stock cars in his younger years, or later his beloved Mopar cars, he was always chasing speed.
Beyond his adventurous spirit, Alan was a dedicated businessman, successfully building and managing multiple car-hauling companies throughout his lifetime. He approached every endeavor with passion and purpose, never doing anything halfway.
For over 30 years, Alan and Diana made their home in Keenesburg, Colorado, a place where they built memories, friendships, and a life well-lived. His presence, orneriness, and laughter will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A celebration of Alan’s life will be held on Thursday at 10:30am at a short graveside service in Brighton and a celebration of life immediately following at the American Legion Post 180 in Keenesburg. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Alan’s legacy by sharing a story, raising a glass, and just having a good time.
Alan’s favorite charities were St Jude’s and Tunnel to Towers if you prefer to make a donation in his name.
Ride easy, Alan. Your journey was a great one.
