Antonio Portillo 75, passed away on January 15, 2022, at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center, in Roswell, NM. He was born on February 25, 1946, in El Tule Chihuahua, son of Marcolfa Jurado and Antonio Portillo.
After years of dreaming about the “American Dream” Antonio ventured to the United States at the age of 17 to grab hold of it. Once arriving he started his roots in California where he worked for 16 years as a machinist. After returning to his hometown and marrying his wife, Maria Luisa, Antonio and Maria Luisa moved to Colorado where they lived for several years amongst family and friends and later found and created their dream home in Roswell, New Mexico.
Throughout his lifetime, Antonio was a strong man who worked hard, never took the easy route, and always strived for the best; he was truly a great man. Not only did he help many of his family and friends, he always found ways to help in his hometown of El Tule where he even took a try at running for mayor.
Antonio loved to fish and watch his beloved Westerns. He also loved cooking his famous carnitas, spending time in his garden, and starting new projects around the house.
Antonio had a heart of gold and brought warmth and laughter to all who listened. He told the best stories with charisma and such conviction. He was a very loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, Godfather, and friend. All who knew him cherished the time spent with him. He brought joy, and most of all, love to all who knew him. Throughout all his health challenges he was brave and always continued on with a positive outlook.
Antonio is survived by, his wife Maria Luisa, daughter Deana, grandchildren Ernie, Marie, and Vivian Perez.
He was preceded in death by his son Antonio “Tonito”, his parents Marcolfa and Antonio Senior, and his brother Luis.
