Barbara K. Banner
Barbara was born to William and Majorie Smith of Des Moines, Iowa on July 7, 1937. She spent her early years in Iowa and her family later moved to and settledin Southern California. She graduated from Van NuysHigh School, and she loved to brag about attending school with Robert “Bob” Redford, Natalie Woods and Don Drysdale. She went on to attend Valley Collegewhere she studied Accounting.
Barbara spent thirty years of her career in customer service as a grocery cashier and bookkeeper. After retiring from the grocery industry, she eventually moved into money handling for a casino in Blackhawk, CO. Barbara was very proud of her career and would often tell stories about how she had to hand calculate someone’s bill and would use keys to punch in the prices on the cash register. She marveled at how different things are with technology these days compared to the way they did things back in her day. She really enjoyed talking about how things used to be.
After spending many years in California, Barbara made her way to Colorado in 1992 where she spent the remainder of her life. She enjoyed a variety of crafts in her lifetime, ranging from tin can crafts, macrame, and crocheting. She spent her retirement years travelling and making beautiful, crocheted blankets and goodies for her family. She enjoyedspending time with her grandkids and telling them stories about her adventurous life.
Barbara was preceded in death by both parents and her younger sister Betty. She is survived by her 3children, Deborah, Larry, and Lisa; 5 grandchildren, Rebekah, Jamie, Steven, Jesse, and Lena; her 11 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
