Barbara was born and raised on farms in Blue Earth County, MN until her parents built a house in Cleveland, MN her senior year of high school. She was born to William and Berniece Fortier. Being the oldest of 4 (even if just by a couple minutes), twin brother Robert and sisters Nancy and Janean.
Barbara met Wayne Sayler and they married 10/23/1965. They moved to Colorado in 1967 shortly after their daughter Pam was born. Eventually purchasing a home in 1970 after daughter Kim was born, in Englewood, CO. This has been the family home for 56 years.
Barbara always worked hard and enjoyed life. She often worked 2 jobs. Working at the DMV as a trainer for 20+ years before finally retiring. She was able to travel some, taking a cruise to Alaska, traveling through Germany, Poland, and Ireland with family and a road trip through western United States with her best friend Marie.
She enjoyed camping and fishing all over Colorado with the family. Photography was a great pastime of hers. Taking thousands of pictures, mostly of scenery and very few people.
She really had a green thumb, she gardened every year, often canning and preserving the many vegetables she grew. Strawberries (the squirrels loved), onions, green peppers, rhubarb, tomatoes and much more. Her garden/yard bloomed of peonies, roses, snap dragons, pansies, many more flowers. This last summer she didn’t get much from the garden as the dog kept eating it all. Pumpkins were her nemesis as she either stepped on them or forgot to water them.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents William & Berniece as well as husband Wayne.
She is survived by daughters Pam (Jim) Temple and Kim Mark Saracino) Sayler; three grandchildren, Brenden (Danielle) Temple, Erika Maricle and Alex (Cheyene) DeBoer & seven great-grandchildren. Siblings Robert (Barbara) Fortier, Nancy (Richard) Rezac, and Janean (Dar) Neuman-Fortier.
All are invited to a Celebration of Life on Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at the Alli Event Center, 100 S Third Ave., Brighton CO from 12:30- 3:30 p.m. (lunch will be provided). She will be laid to reset in a private ceremony at Fort Logan National Cemetery with her husband.
