Carol Ann Overcash Newsom
February 28, 1951 - May 9, 2025
Carol Ann Overcash Newsom, 74, of Brighton, Colorado, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2025, surrounded by the love and support from her family and many of the children she once cared for. Her final moments reflected how she lived her life—enveloped in love and community.
Carol began her journey on February 28, 1951, in Edmond, Oklahoma, born to Jacob Overcash and Delphia Wright. She grew into a woman of remarkable compassion and creativity. Throughout her life, she cultivated a deep passion for philanthropy, finding joy in supporting causes close to her heart. An avid birdwatcher, Carol could identify countless species by their songs alone and would often spend peaceful mornings with binoculars in hand, patiently observing the winged visitors to her garden. Her artistic spirit shone through her dedication to arts and crafts, creating beautiful handmade treasures that adorned the homes of friends and family. In her kitchen, Carol worked magic, preparing meals that nourished both body and soul, using recipes perfected over decades and shared generously with loved ones.
Carol married her devoted husband, Buddy Newsom, on June 2nd, 1972, beginning a loving partnership that would span over five decades. Together, they had three sons: Timothy, Jacob, and Philip.
Carol treasured her family deeply, including her sons' partners who brought additional joy to her life: Timothy's wife Kaitlyn Newsom, Jacob's partner Maxlyn Wanner, and Philip's partner Joyce Santiago. All three brought tremendous comfort, support, and love to Carol's life, especially in her final years. Her love extended to her adopted grandchild, Angelie, whom Carol cherished. Carol's family circle also includes her sister Barbara, with whom she shared countless memories. She was preceded in death by her brother, Perry, whose memory she honored throughout her life.
For nearly three decades, Carol operated a small but impactful daycare service from her home, where she nurtured more than 20 children with the same love and attention she gave her own family. What made Carol truly exceptional was not just her caregiving skills, but her ability to form lasting connections that transcended time. Many of "Carol's kids," now adults with families of their own, maintained deep bonds with her throughout her life, a testament to the profound influence she had on their formative years. Her patience, understanding, and unconditional love provided a foundation upon which these children built their lives.
Services celebrating Carol's remarkable life will be held on Monday, May 19, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM at Tabor Funeral Home in Brighton, followed by a graveside service at Fairview Cemetery, where friends and family will gather to honor her memory.
