Carol Reasoner Obituary

Carol Diane Reasoner

Carol died on December 15 with her family by her side. She was born in Denver, Colorado on October 10, 1939, to John and Elizabeth Finnegan and was the oldest daughter of four siblings. After graduating from Brighton High School, she married her sweetheart, James Wesley Reasoner. For most of her life, she lived in Brighton or just outside of town.

Mostly Carol loved raising her family, but she also enjoyed various secretarial roles, first at American Excelsior in Thornton, and later at the Brighton Fire Department, from which she retired.  Decorating and caring for her home were favorite pastimes; a great pride was a clean, orderly, and beautiful home. Saturday mornings were filled with her favorite music playing as she lovingly cleaned and cared for every room in the house.  If not cleaning the house, she would prepare meals, host holiday dinners, and cookouts, cart her three kids to 4H meetings and school activities, or help around the family farm.

After retiring, Carol and Jim traveled to and from their home in Mesquite, Nevada where they golfed, attended music shows, and played cards to sit out the chill of winter. Jim’s Brighton Elks and Central Colorado Water Conservancy District activities kept them busy traveling across Colorado and for a while, throughout the US while Jim fulfilled his duties for these organizations. Carol loved to socialize at these gatherings, meet new people, and create connections with those she met wherever their travels might take them.  Her easy manner and kind words made her a magnet in any room for those who needed a chance to tell their story or get a little encouragement.

A love of horseback riding, which began in Henderson atop a borrowed horse and along with a childhood chum, was a passion she passed on to her daughters. Carol had a soft and generous heart and a knack for baking pies with a buttery crust. As such she taught 4H kids how to delicately combine the ingredients and roll out the dough for their flaky pie crusts. She loved the Lord and the quiet hours she spent in Eucharistic adoration in St. Monica’s chapel at St Augustine were a weekly devotion. She also served as a eucharist minister for nearly 20 years.

Carol is survived by her 3 children: Stephanie Morrison (Glen), Scott Reasoner (Kim), and Laurie Hatch (Guy) along with 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, and her sister Maryann. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Jim, sister Marlene, and brother Duane.

The family wishes to specifically mention heartfelt thanks to the devoted and loving care from the Inglenook Family and to the Compassionate Care team who guided mom through her last days and final hours with dignity and respect.  If you wish to donate flowers, Carol’s favorites were pink.
