Caroline Swieter Obituary

Caroline Swieter

Emilie Hannah Caroline (Grubb) Swieter went home to Jesus on Sunday, March 14, 2021. She was born in Tilden, Nebraska to Wesley and Claudia (Weise) Grubb on July 16, 1936. Caroline grew up in a loving home and was the oldest of six children.

She learned valuable lessons for life whether it was washing parts in her father’s automotive shop, helping her mother with the baking business, or caring for her younger siblings. Her faith started at a young age and helped form the woman of integrity and character that she became. At 16 years old she completed preliminary nursing training and worked as a nurse’s aide in Chicago for the summer. Then, after graduating from Tilden High School in 1955, she moved to Colorado where friends Mary Ann and Eddie Vienot welcomed her to their home and she completed her degree in nursing at the University of Denver in 1959. Caroline worked in a variety of hospitals in the Denver and Brighton areas as a registered nurse in ER as well as other departments. She transitioned to school nursing during which time she earned her master’s degree in Community Health from the University of Colorado as well as obtaining her licensure as a nurse practitioner. In the early nineties she retired as the district nurse from the Brighton School District.

In 1960 she married Walter Swieter from Hampton, Iowa and to this union two children were born, Dwayne and David. Caroline was a member of Gospel Hall for over 60 years where she enjoyed fellowship and worship with fellow Christians. She loved the Lord and enjoyed studying His word through Bible Study Fellowship. Caroline enjoyed the mountains and spent time hiking, four-wheeling, and snowmobiling in Colorado and Wyoming and recently enjoyed a four-wheeling trip with her family in South Dakota. In addition, Caroline enjoyed spending time on the water, especially visits on a house boat to Lake Powell. She was an avid reader, enjoying a variety of authors and genres. Caroline was instrumental in founding the Salud Family Health Center spending a number of years as a board member including serving as board chair multiple terms. She also enjoyed having breakfasts with a group of friends from nursing training and having lunch dates with a group of close colleagues from the Brighton School District. Over the past 18 years, she especially enjoyed vacationing and traveling with her immediate family and spending time at all of her grandsons’ various activities.

Caroline was preceded in death by her husband Walter (2013), her parents, and her brother Stanley. She is survived by son Dwayne of Colorado, son David (Ellen) of Keenesburg, Colorado, and her grandsons Wesley and Benjamin. In addition, she is survived by her siblings Angeline (Gene) Frazee of Fallon, NV; Charles (Linda) Grubb of Fall River Mills, CA; Charlotte (Gene) Huntley of Elkhorn, WI; and Debbie (Jack) Smith of Tilden, NE; her sister-in-law Sharon Grubb of Tilden, NE; brother-in-law Clarence (Bonnie) Swieter of Dumont, IA as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
