Christopher A. Chavez
Christopher A. Chavez, 90, of Denver, Colorado, passed away on March 10, 2024, in Morrison, Colorado.
Chris was born in the Land of Enchantment on February 17, 1934, to Felix and Ofelia (Vigil) Chavez. He was the fourth of five children and was raised in Folsom, New Mexico. He graduated from Des Moines High School and shortly thereafter joined the United States Navy. He served during the Korean War and was honorably discharged.
After the Navy, Chris attended Trinidad State Junior College for a time before moving to Denver. In Denver he held several jobs including driving a tow truck. It was while driving the tow truck that he met the love of his life, Becky Cisneros, a waitress in a local diner. They were married in December of 1956 and lived in North Denver. Chris began his employment with Caterpillar Tractor in September 1957 and remained there until his retirement in 1990.
In September of 1957, they welcomed their first child Connie, followed by Mark in 1958.
After his retirement, Chris learned to play tennis and it quickly became his favorite pastime. He played both singles and doubles across the state. Chris also worked enthusiastically in the community serving on both state and local boards as well as a nonprofit organization called Brothers Redevelopment where he assisted in procurement of paint and supplies needed to paint hundreds of homes across the state of Colorado. Later Chris returned to school and obtained a bachelor’s degree as well as a Teaching Certificate. Chris reentered the workforce and began teaching, specializing in bi-lingual mathematics. Later Chris went to work for Mark and became the operator of the Phoenix Company. Chris and Becky were graduates of the Westminster Police Citizen’s Academy and were active at the Westminster MAC as well as Adams County Triad and AARP.
Chris was preceded in death by Becky, his wife of 67 years, both of his parents as well as his siblings; Bertha, Joe and Cecelia. He is survived by his children; Connie and Mark (Jess), granddaughters; Jessica and Marki (Mitch), great-grand daughters Avaree and Graycen, his brother Louie as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
