Deena was born in Denver, CO to David and Janice Byars. She grew up in Arvada with her brother, cousins and grandparents who lived nearby. She found her passion for music at a young age and played the French horn in the Arvada High School Marching band. After graduating high school she went to college at Metropolitan State University of Denver majoring in Political Science. During her time in college she met her best friend and husband Doug Baldwin. They married on September 22, 1984. They enjoyed going camping, four wheeling and exploring the Rocky Mountains of Colorado together. In 1987 they welcomed their son David and moved to Frederick shortly after the arrival of their daughter, Dori in 1990.
Deena spent the majority of her career as a Director of Managed Services and Operations Manager for Northrop Grumman, Essintial Enterprise and EDS. With her blackberry and cellphone in hand, she always made her kids’ sports and extracurricular events a priority. In 2001 she took on a single parenting role when Doug began his career as a railroad conductor and moved out of state for 6 years.
In 2015, Deena retired and prepared for her next role as Grammy. In 2016 she welcomed her first grandchild, Decker followed by Jeffery, Morgan, Lander, Addilyn and Alessi. She enjoyed giving well-thought-out birthday, Christmas and holiday gifts and helping coordinate events for her children and grandchildren. While she was retired from her professional role, she took on a full-time job helping with anything needed within her family. From painting a bedroom to cooking and baking, her presence could always be counted on by family and friends alike.
Deena could be relied upon for good movie and recipe recommendations and usually be found wearing her favorite Broncos or Colorado sports team attire while managing her and Doug’s fantasy football line-ups. Her advice, humor and wisdom will be missed by so many.
Deena is survived by her husband Doug Baldwin, children David (Jennifer) Baldwin, Dori (Parker) Jacobs, grandchildren Jeffery, Morgan Addilyn, Decker, Lander and Alessi, mother Janice Byars, brother Richard (Marlo) Byars. She is preceded in death by her father David Byars.
