Don passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family on March 23, 2025. He was born in Hendersonville, North Carolina on March 8, 1957, to Mary Story and Howard Jones and was the youngest of four boys. His life truly began the day he met the love of his life, Marie Fiedler, whom he married on July 21, 1984.
Don worked hard to grow and excel professionally in the banking field and was known for his unwavering kindness and respect in the workforce through every position he held. Don spent his entire adult life revolving around his wife and children; he dedicated his life to ensuring that his family was rooted in love and memories. He was always supportive of all the things that his children tried growing up from sports to scouts and everything in between. He led the family from one adventure to the next through all the family camping trips, road trips, and vacations along with the moves from state to state. Don’s sense of humor would leave everyone overcome with laughter and is arguably his most memorable attribute.
As a self-taught craftsman, Don loved woodworking; a hobby that he shared with his father and was always up for the next item that his wife dreamed up. From rocking horses, display cases, and garden arbors to always offering his skill to his kids scout troops. He found solace in nature; the peacefulness of wetting a line, the tranquility of taking a walk in the woods, and endless ghost stories around the fire while enjoying s’mores. He was very passionate about music, spending many nights not only listening to music but creating playlists and organizing thousands of songs on his computer. He taught himself to play guitar and loved playing the chords that he created for his children and grandchildren.
Don is survived by his wife, Marie Jones; his four children, Jennifer Lee, Joshua Jones, Jacqlyn Mckim, Jacob Jones; his three bonus children, Katie Jones, Ryan Mckim, Brandi Jones; along with nine adoring grandchildren. He is preceded in death by both his parents, his three brothers, and his daughter, Amy Jones.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Don’s name to the American Cancer Society and/or the American Stroke Association.
