Earl Knight Obituary

Earl Knight, age 92, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2022 in Aurora, Colorado at the VA Fitzsimmons Nursing home, with his daughter Lynn holding his hand. He was born July 25, 1930 to Shepard and Lena (Harper) Knight in Denver, Colorado and enlisted in the United States Navy at the young age of 17.

Earl was very proud of his Naval Career. His tenure in the military started with him immediately being shipped off to Korea, where he did many secret missions into China. Earl loved his shipmates and having the opportunity to serve his country.

While on military leave, Earl saw a beautiful girl on the Post Office steps in Sheridan WY and just two short weeks later they were engaged and she was on a train to Norfolk RI to marry her Sailor. Since Earl was afraid, she would not recognize him, he ensured that he marry her the day after her arrival with a wedding he planned. They were married for 45 years, and the union brought them 2 children; Lynn Knight (Denver) and Terri Lynskey (Florida). Three grand-daughters, Jessica Knight-Perry (Doug) ; Kristin and Kelley Lynskey. And, two  great grand-daughters, Stella Elinor and Scarlett Mae.

For work Earl was a Plumber and Pipefitter until his retirement at 65. He also volunteered at the VA in Cheyenne, WY for many years. Earl loved working in his shop where he built and refinished furniture. He also loved his sports, in which he both coached and played. He loved them so much that he had to retire his glove at the age of 65, because he loved playing softball. He was a kind, and caring giving man with a great personality, these are the characteristics that carried on until the end.

Earl is preceded in passing by both parents, Lena and Shepard Knight. By his wife, Georgia Knight. Grand-daughter, Kelley Lynskey. Also, by his sister, Frances Jones, a niece, Sheri Knutson, and many other half sisters and brothers. Earl was loved by many and greatly missed.
