Eiji Horiuchi Obituary

Eiji Horiuchi was born in a farmhouse (which is still standing) on Riverdale Road in Brighton, Colorado on January 5, 1934. His parents were Keiji and Sakiye Horiuchi. He was the oldest of four children: Setsu, Eugene and Andy. Eiji grew up in a farming family in Brighton and Littleton. He attended college at the University of Colorado, Boulder, earning a bachelor’s degree in Zoology.

On August 25, 1968, he married Fumiko Nakasugi and moved to Denver. Eiji and Fumiko bought a house in southeast Denver, which they lived in throughout their 53-year marriage. They had two boys, Dale and Kent.

Eiji’s true passion was his work. Despite having a degree in Zoology, he spent the majority of his working life in the business world as a realtor and broker.

He was at his office every day–even throughout the pandemic–and worked up until the time of his passing. He was an active member of the Japanese American Citizens League and had also been a member of Optimist International.

Eiji’s life revolved around family and work, but he did enjoy fishing, gardening, and watching his kids–and eventually grandchildren–participate in various sports and school activities. He was an avid sports fan, following the Broncos, Nuggets and Rockies, and he enjoyed watching The Andy Griffith Show, Seinfeld, and M*A*S*H. He also enjoyed watching various programming related to politics and business.

We will always remember Eiji as a hardworking and honest businessman, a dedicated father and grandfather, and a devoted husband, brother, and son.

Eiji is survived by his wife Fumiko, sons Dale (Paige) Horiuchi and Dr. Kent (Christine) Horiuchi; grandchildren, Tyler (Mariah), Bethany, Allison and Jack; sister Setsu (Gary) Yoshida, brother Gene as well as nephews and nieces Kevin (Jennifer Coulter) Yoshida, Kathy (Josh) Catlin, Andrea Kubo (children Ashley and Logan), Cindy Horiuchi, Aaron (Kallie and daughter Cleo) Horiuchi and Dr. Kimberly (Matthew and children Emiko and Kenzo) Horiuchi-Jones.

He was preceded in death by parents Keiji and Sakiye Horiuchi and brother Andy.
