Eleanor Elaine (Paleo) Chavez

A beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother — went to be with Jesus on the evening of October 23, 2025, at the age of 93.

Affectionately known as Gobby, Ellie, Mom, Grandma, and Gobster, Eleanor was a beautiful person inside and out. She was easily the coolest girl in any room. She played guitar in the church band, worked in Alaska during the war, and was bilingual. She knew how to cook, paint, dance, and fix just about anything — especially broken hearts.

Eleanor had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh and giggle. She adored sweet treats of every kind and always had some ready to share. What made her so special was how she delighted in sharing the hobbies and passions of those she loved — whether that meant watching an Avalanche game, sewing an alteration, rocking out to new music, admiring a painting, or joining a party. She was an avid reader and the best shopping companion, never leaving a store empty-handed.

Above all, Eleanor was a devout Catholic who loved the Lord Jesus Christ, and this love emanated through her kindness, patience, warmth, gentleness, hugs, kisses, tickles, and time. No matter the hour, Gobby was always ready to give her time.

She cared for everyone in her family, and now Jesus is caring for her.

She is now flying among the angels.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her daughter Angela Harrell; her husband Benny Chavez; her parents Delfino Paleo and Rose C. De Baca; her brothers Henry, Robert (“Pudge”), and Eddie; and her sisters Hope, Francis, Dolores, and Rita.

She is survived by her loving daughters Marcia, Cynthia (John), and Sandra (Greg); her son-in-law Russ Harrell (Angela); and her brother Ross. She will be forever missed by her granddaughters Jordan, Taylor, and Lauren, and lovingly remembered by her great-grandbabies Alexander, Isaac, Evelyn, and Camila.
