Elma “Jean” Gettman

Jean was born in Brush, CO to Alex and Katie (Eichler) Becker on November 26, 1932. She graduated from Prospect Valley High School in 1951 and was married to her high school sweetheart, Richard L. Gettman Sr. on July 13, 1952, at Grace Lutheran Church in Hudson, CO. Richard and Jean farmed in Hudson, Keenesburg area before moving to Keenesburg.

She was a devoted member of Grace Lutheran Church, where she was an active member of the Ladies of Grace Ministry, where she served as the treasurer for several years. She also served on the Alter Guild.
Family was very important to her as she enjoyed keeping the German traditions of preparing meals alive. Some favorites were chicken noodle soup with “butter balls”, German Rye Bread, Grebble, Krautburgers, Mouldasha, Blinna, Blackberry Rivval Kuchen. She was proud that her kids and grandkids have followed in her footsteps in keeping this heritage alive. She also enjoyed baking cookies, bars, and cakes, especially for her grandkids and great grandkids, making sure she had plenty for them to “take some home”.
She enjoyed bowling, sewing, fishing and Sunday afternoon family time, playing volleyball, softball and board games! She was a faithful follower of college football; she loved the Nebraska Cornhuskers! She also enjoyed watching her favorite NBA team…Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors (just like her grandson Jace!)

Daughters; LouAnn Baer of Albuquerque, NM, Nancy Weber of Colorado Springs, CO, Tammy (Jim) Cook of Hudson, CO, Penny Lynn of Loveland, CO, and Diane (Tom) Sauter of Bennett, CO.
