Frederick Gilmer Burkhalter was born on October 10, 1956 to Samuel Frederick Burkhalter and Clara Jane (Gilmer) Burkhalter in Denver, CO. He was raised in Thornton where he attended school and was a member of the last graduating class of Merritt Hutton High School.
He was generous with his time and cared about doing the right thing. These virtues were best exemplified during his many years volunteering as a Boy Scout Master for Troop 417 in Thornton. His patience and encouragement fostered the development of many scouts.
Those close to him will remember his signature sense of humor, his love of rich foods, and his uncommonly strong work ethic; he worked as an insurance appraiser for most of his life.
For the past several years he and his wife, Eileen, were very active members of Brighton’s Ye Olde Auto Club and could be seen regularly cruising his ‘66 Comet with a Hawaiian shirt and a smile. Fred and Eileen were also avid travelers with favorite destinations in the Bahamas and around Hawaii.
Fred passed away suddenly on March 25, 2020, at the age of 63. He is survived by his wife, Eileen Burkhalter of Brighton; son, Sam Burkhalter of Thornton; brother, Dave Burkhalter of Dallas, Texas; step-sister, Bethe Burkholder of Denver; and step-son, Mark Willard.
A celebration of life will be held 10:00 am on Friday, June 19, 2020.
