Gemma Dolores Aguayo was the pillar of her family, a woman who brightened her loved ones’ days with her beautiful smile, her kind heart, and her spirit of happiness.
She was born on September 5, 1957 in the small town of Anahuac in the state of Chihuahua, Mexico. She was the daughter of Juventino Hernandez and Maria Varela and had 2 sisters and 3 brothers. In middle school, she moved to the city of Chihuahua with her mother and two of her siblings, where she completed her studies and worked as a secretary. There she also met her great love, Francisco Javier Aguayo, whom she married on March 22, 1980.
Sometime later, the couple made the big decision to move to the United States. At first the family lived in California, but after a few years Gemma, Francisco Javier and their two daughters moved to Colorado. It was in Colorado where their son was born and where Gemma would remain for the rest of her life, even though she always disliked the snowy winters.
After many years of being a devoted mother and homemaker, Gemma studied to be a hairstylist. She became an incredible hairstylist and worked at a Great Clips salon for 13 years. Gemma was the favorite among all the salon’s clients, especially the little old men as she used to refer to them, because of her meticulous work and the great care and affection she showed. And that’s just who she was, considerate, loving and a blessing to all who were a part of her life.
Gemma also loved her free time. She enjoyed going to the movies and yard sales, watering her flowers, watching remodeling and adventure shows, cooking new recipes, shopping, going on beach vacations, and having BBQs. However, her greatest joy came from being in the company of her husband and her children. Her joy was magnified when she became a grandmother, or Ababu as her two grandchildren lovingly called her. She went out of her way to serve them, spoil them, and love them as much as a mother loves her own children.
Sadly, on the morning of October 4, 2020, Gemma abruptly left our lives like a fast-shooting star. At the age of 63, Gemma passed away at her home in Aurora, Colorado in the company of her beloved husband of 40 years and their three children.
Although her departure was unexpected and painful, she will always live in the hearts of her loved ones who include her husband Francisco Javier, her daughter Gemma Aguayo-Murphy and her husband Matthew Murphy, her daughter Gabriela Stecklein and her husband Gary Stecklein, her son Javier Aguayo, her grandchildren Gemma, Mateo and one due in two weeks, her brothers Hector and Olga, and several nephews, nieces, relatives, and friends. Her family rejoices in knowing that she is now in the arms of Our Lord God along with her parents, her brothers Cesar and Javier, and her sister Ivonne.
A private memorial service for her family will take place on October 13, 2020.
