George Bland obituary
George Bland was born on a cool and rainy day in March 1933 in Church Hill, MD to Jesse and Beulah Bland. He was the third of four children. He married the love of his life, Eleanor Kreutzer Powell, on April 5th, 1963.
George enlisted in the US Navy in 1952 during the Korean War. He served as an Aircraft Mechanic, AM. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal (2 Stars), United Nations Service Medal, China Service Medal, and National Defense Service Medal. He was released from service in January 1954 as an AM3.
George spent the majority of his life in Colorado working as a truck driver, notably at Consolidated Freight (CF). Kicking off his retirement George covered all costs for an extended family vacation over Christmas break for their four children, spouses, and grandchildren at Walt Disney World. Following retirement, George and Eleanor traveled extensively with their fifth wheel. They went to Texas, Arizona, Alaska, Delaware and all points in between. After several years of traveling and fishing, George and Eleanor settled back into a routine at home. George helped a local company with transporting vehicles.
George loved the outdoors. He loved hunting deer and fishing. As a young man he helped his dad run his fishing charter boat, Richard S, out of Lewes, Delaware. He earned his own Captain license at the earliest age possible, 21, and ran his own fishing charter boat Susie Q, along with his dad. George shared his love of the outdoors with his family and friends during numerous camping trips.
George is survived by wife, Eleanor Bland; along with four children, Cynthia (Bland) and Robert Young, Richard Powell, Sandra (Bland) and Jess Isgar, and Thomas Bland and Tracy; eight grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. George is preceded in death by both parents; two brothers, Jesse Jr and Richard (Dickie), and sister Barbara. George will be missed by all who knew him.
