Grace "Gracie" Wenger, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully in January 2025. Born on January 26, 1928, in Shellsburg, Iowa, to Oscar L. Walker and Mary L. Combs Walker, Gracie was the eighth of nine siblings and spent her early years in a close-knit family. She attended Oak Park Academy in Nevada, Iowa, and later pursued higher education at Union College in Lincoln, Nebraska.
In 1947, Grace married Duane Green, and together they had three daughters: Connie Terese, Sondra Fay, and Heather Lynette. The family lived for a time in San Diego, California, where Gracie created a warm and loving home. After her divorce from Duane, she found love again and married Charles "Chuck" Wenger in May 1967. They made their home in Auburn, Washington, and Grace welcomed Chuck’s two daughters, Linda and Kathy, into her life, embracing them as her own.
Grace’s life was filled with adventure, love, and service. She and Chuck enjoyed traveling the country in their fifth wheel, creating cherished memories in Colorado, Washington, and Oregon. From 2018 until her passing, she lived with her daughter Connie, surrounded by family and love.
Grace was a proud grandmother to twelve grandchildren, as well as a great-grandmother and a great-great-grandmother. She had a deep passion for life and filled her days with hobbies such as reading, hiking, playing games, and cooking. Known for her creativity, she delighted in crafting new recipes and sharing them with loved ones. Her love for animals and her selfless spirit were evident in the care and kindness she extended to all living creatures.
A skilled horseshoe player, Grace earned multiple championships in her senior league, showcasing her determination and competitive spirit. She loved the outdoors and hiking, even when her adventures included unexpected mishaps—like the time she fell in a creek during a hike, a story that became a family favorite and perfectly reflected her resilience and sense of humor.
Grace’s wit, radiant smile, and generosity left an indelible mark on everyone she met. Her legacy is one of love, resilience, and compassion, and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
