Helen Lugo

Mary Helen Lugo, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2025, in Brighton, Colorado, at the age of 80.

Born on November 27, 1944, in San Ignacio, New Mexico, Mary Helen was the cherished daughter of Antonio Sena and Alice Sena (née Marquez). Though born in New Mexico, she was raised in Brighton, Colorado, a community she called home for the majority of her life.

Mary Helen was a woman deeply rooted in family and tradition. She was one of eleven siblings and is lovingly remembered by her brothers and sisters: Juan Sena, Bobby Sena, Joe Sena, Gloria Crawford, Delphie Morales, Lillian Sandoval, Shirley Medina, Victoria Sena, Rose Mata, and Joanne Sena.

She shared a beautiful life with her devoted husband, Joe Lugo Jr., and together they raised four children: Maria Lugo, Diane Lugo, Shawn Lugo, and Freddy Lugo. Her love and care extended to her many grandchildren—Robert Lugo, Angela Lugo, Michael Lugo Gonzales, Antonio Escamilla, Moses Lugo, Jesse Lugo, Cassandra Lugo, Kane Lugo, Journey Lugo, and Mason Lugo—as well as her great-grandchildren: Jordan Martinez, Joseph Jr. Martinez, Joevannie Martinez, Laylanie Martinez, Adonis Martinez, Michael Lugo Gonzales Jr., and Brandon Lugo Gonzales.

Mary Helen will be remembered for her warmth, strength, and unwavering devotion to her family. Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched and in the love she so generously gave.

She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by her family, friends, and all who knew her.
