Jack Tani Sr. Obituary

Jack Tsugio Tani, Sr. was born on September. 15th, 1931, in Fort Lupton, CO, to Tamayo and George Tani, Sr. He is pre-deceased by his parents, his daughter, three sisters and two brothers. He is survived by his wife, two sons, three granddaughters, two great grandchildren, three brothers and two sisters. Jack grew up on the family farm in Fort Lupton, where he attended and completed high school. He served in the U.S. Army where he was stationed in Kansas, Alaska and Washington State and received the National Defense Service Ribbon. Upon being honorably discharged from Company C, 87th Infantry he continued to serve in the Army Reserves for several years. Upon returning home, he met the love of his life, Joyce Hatsume Yoshihara. They were happily married on January 26th, 1958; shortly after, they welcomed the birth of their first son, Mickey (m. Sue), their only daughter, Marjorie and later Jack, Jr. Tragically, they lost their daughter Marjorie soon after her birth. The family resided in Northglenn, CO, on Fowler Drive. Jack was involved in community activities such as, volunteering at the church, coaching sports, and raising and expanding their family. Jack and Joyce welcomed their first granddaughter, Jack’s daughter, Michelle (Justin) and later Mick’s two daughters, Sara and Caitlyn (m. Tavo). They became Great Grandparents to Michelle’s children, David and Aidynn. His hobbies and activities included coaching youth sports, baseball, basketball, football and softball. He enjoyed playing in the Fort Lupton Japanese Baseball League. In later years, he enjoyed watching his Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren participate in their extracurricular activities. However, his favorite pastime was hitting golf balls in the water hazards at the golf course, and trying for a hole-in-one; where he accomplished his goal, on a golf course in Mesquite, NV. He was a devoted Rockies fan especially when they scored more than seven runs, “we get tacos!”. He was well known in the community, and was a friend to all who knew him. He will be greatly missed.
