James “Jim” William Arthurs, 88, of Brighton passed away April 26, 2022. Jim was born July 24, 1933, in Mason City, Iowa to John “Hank” F. and Bernice M. (Blankenheim) Arthurs, he was their only child. His family moved to Marshalltown, Iowa where he graduated from St. Mary’s High School. Jim also graduated from the University of Minnesota and was a veteran of the United States Navy.
He married Priscilla Lynne Hooven June 20, 1956, in Marshalltown, Iowa. They had three children, Patrick, Rebecca, and Ellen. In 1965 Jim and Priscilla moved from Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Brighton where Jim started his work as funeral director and later owner of Rice Funeral Chapel. During this time he also served as Adams County Coroner for 16 years.
After retirement he enjoyed taking care of his yard, family vacations in Steamboat Springs and spending time with his grandsons.
Jim was a member of St. Augustine’s Parish. He had served on the board of Brighton Community Hospital, and had been a member of Brighton Housing Authority, Colorado Funeral Directors Assn., Colorado Coroners Assn., Rotary and Kiwanis.
Jim is preceded in death by parents Hank and Bernice.
Jim is survived by his wife Priscilla, son, Pat (Terree) Arthurs of Brighton, daughters Becky (Scott) Backlund of Lakewood and Ellen Arthurs of Aurora. Grandsons - Jim (Crystal McDowell) Arthurs of Arvada and John (Sumer) Arthurs, and great grandson Henry Arthurs of Brighton.

A memorial service will be held at Tabor-Rice Funeral Home on Monday, May 16th at 2:00 pm.
