Jerome “Jerry” J. Maher
September 20, 1940 – December 7, 2020
Jerome Joseph Maher “Jerry” was born on September 20, 1940 in Oelwein Iowa to John and Mary Maher. He is survived by his wife Judith, seven children; Cheryl(Dan), Mike, Anjanette(Terry), Colin, Ralph, Chris, John(Cathy), three grandchildren; Joe, Shannon, Caitlyn, and three sisters; Gabrielle, Jeanne, Sheila, and many friends. He is preceded in death by both his parents, his brother Michael, and his previous wife Jean.
Jerry’s earliest years were spent in Chicago Illinois. The family then moved and settled in Denver Colorado where he attended and completed his secondary education. He met and married Jean Oberwitte and had four children. He then returned to the Midwest, raising three of the children in Illinois and Wisconsin where he met Judith and her two sons. Jerry and Judith wed, had a son, and moved the family to Colorado where most of the family still resides. He instilled in his children, a curiosity about all things, creative thinking, and a love of life & adventure.
He spent a substantial amount of time in Boston & Hawaii, and eventually discovered the northern Pacific coastal area where he lived until his return to Colorado in 2008. His artistic and creative talents with marble, plastics, fiberglass, concrete, and wood involved him in many projects that remain today. Most notable is the fence/artistic boundary sculpture in Canon Beach Oregon (picture attached). He had a spiritual conversation with God and realized his purpose in life was to help anybody in any way that he could, he continued living his life this way until he passed. Jerry touched many lives. He developed some very close relationships where friends became a brother or nephew.
