John Richard Alonzo John Richard Alonzo, 79, of Lamar, Colorado, passed away peacefully in Denver, Colorado on October 12, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness. He was born on May 4, 1946, in Lamar, Colorado to Alejandro R. Alonzo, Sr. and Mary Amparo Alonzo (Torrez). He grew up in Wiley, Colorado with his siblings. He took pride in helping his family by working in the hay mills in Wiley. His parents also knew the importance of education and he went on to graduate from Wiley Senior High School in 1964 with a class of 15 students. He moved to Denver not too long after that and started his career in the microfilm industry where he worked for nearly 50 years. He was able to see technology evolve firsthand from microfilm to everything being digitized towards retirement. He retired from the State of Colorado, Department of Revenue, Tax Files as an OƯice Manager in November 2012. He enjoyed his retirement by being an avid local sports fan and spending time with his daughter. He also cherished any time he spent with his grandchildren. He was a devoted father and a loving grandfather. John was known for doing all he could to make sure his family was taken care of no matter what it took. His warmth, generosity, and unwavering support touched everyone that had the honor of knowing him. His unconditional love for his family was clear in everything he did, and his memory will be cherished by every life he touched. John’s gentle spirit, steady presence, boundless love for his family, and not to mention his love for his Broncos, Nuggies, and Avs will be missed dearly but fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him. John is survived by his daughter, Angelina Padilla of Denver, Colorado; son-in-law, Anthony Padilla of Brighton, Colorado; daughter, Christina Alonzo of Lamar, Colorado; granddaughters, Vanessa Rose Lopez (Abel Vargas) and Felicianna Lily DeSantos; Victoria Shippley of Brighton, Colorado, grandson Michael Wright, and great grandson Jahsiah Vargas. He is also survived by his brothers Alex Alonzo, Jr. of Peyton, Colorado; Manuel (Eleanor) Alonzo of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and Victor (Kim) Alonzo of Scottsdale, Arizona; his sisters Dolores Fernandez of Lochbuie, Colorado; and Carmen (James) Hiner of Pueblo, Colorado. There are also several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and greatnephews that mourn his passing as well. He was preceded in death by his parents Alejandro R. Alonzo, Sr. and Mary Amparo Alonzo (Torrez), as well as his sisters Maria Jaime, Pearl Clausen, and Lily Alonzo as well as his brothers -in-law Julian Jaime and Roberto Fernandez. There will be a private service to be decided at a later time to honor him. His daughter encourages everyone to keep John’s spirit alive by showing kindness to others-just as he always did.
