Born on December 13, 1958, in Aurora, Colorado, to Johnnie E. Drake and Jeannette M. Highley. He passed away peacefully on June 29, 2026, in Longmont, with his family by his side.
John grew up in Aurora, then later moved to Brighton, where he attended school. He was the oldest of three boys. In 1976, he enlisted in the Army at the end of the Vietnam War. Having traveled overseas, he developed a love for Greece and Turkey. When John returned, he went back to school and attended Red Rocks Community College and the Colorado School of Mines.
John met Connie L. Froid in 1980, and they married. Together they had four children: Corey, Christina, Sean, and Robert. They were married for 46 years.
He worked for Safeway, then Rocky Flats, eventually retiring by 2002. After retiring, he worked for HSS Healthcare Security until 2006.
During retirement, he enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing, and even cooking. Most recently, his focus was on sharing recipes.
