John Ellis Keever

John Ellis Keever, known to family and friends as John, passed away on May 31, 2026, in Brighton, Colorado, at the age of 80 after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

John was born on April 29, 1946, in Pratt, Kansas, to Ellis Sam Keever and Charoltte M. Lottridge Keever, both of whom preceded him in death. They moved to Colorado when Jon was 3 yrs old.  He graduated from Jefferson High school in 1964. He had many friends from childhood that were very dear to him.

John attended several colleges, and although his formal education took him in different directions, his greatest lessons came from a lifetime of experience, service, and responsibility. He was a proud United States Army veteran, and his sense of discipline and commitment remained with him throughout his years. Following his military service, John built a long and respected career with Union Pacific Railroad, where he worked as a conductor for 27 years. He later shared his knowledge, energy, and entrepreneurial spirit as co-owner of Carriage House Auto for 24 years and Val's Autos LLC for 4 years. In every line of work, John was known for his strong work ethic, practical wisdom, and ability to connect with people from all walks of life.

John had a gift for conversation and truly loved to talk to people. He never met a stranger for long, and he had a way of making others feel welcome and heard. His personality was as dependable as it was engaging, and those who knew him will remember his humor, and his stories. Family was central to John’s life. He married Candice Lee Keever in 1967, and together they welcomed four children, John Todd, Christopher Scott, Heather Jane, and Joshua Paul. Although that marriage ended in 1979, John remained devoted to his children and took pride in his growing family. He later had a short marriage to Loretta L. DeWalt, and they were blessed with a daughter, Corrie Lee. John met Valerie Lynn Clarkson when she sold him a car, and that chance meeting led to a lasting love. They were married on December 31, 1983, and together they shared many years of marriage. Through this union, John welcomed a son, Justin Ellis, and a stepson, Brandon Hernandez, both of whom held a special place in his heart.

John’s life was enriched by many friends and relatives who loved him dearly. He valued time spent with others and found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved camping, fishing, boating, and riding his Harley's and cars. These interests reflected his appreciation for freedom, the outdoors, and the open road. Whether he was sharing stories, spending time with loved ones, or enjoying one of his favorite pastimes, John embraced life with enthusiasm and a spirit of adventure.

He faced life’s joys and challenges with strength and perseverance, and he leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and resilience. His family and friends will remember him for his steadfast presence, his generous heart, and the many ways he made life better for those around him.  John Ellis Keever will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his children, his wife, his stepfamily, his extended family, and the many friends whose lives he touched over the years.
