John Gary Mikes

John was born on the 30th of October in 1952 in Elgin Illinois to John Frank Mikes and Malinda Clara Siems. He was the youngest of their four children. He married the love of his life, Michelle Lillian Parenti on August 6th, 1983. He passed peacefully Friday June 13th, 2025, in Brighton Colorado.

John lived most of his life in the suburbs of Chicago in Illinois. He graduated from Lake Park High School in 1970 and then served in the US Army as a Military Policeman from 1972 until 1974. After his service he completed college, earning a bachelor’s degree from Northern Illinois University in 1976. He spent the majority of his career as a manager of special projects and logistics at Essendant until he retired in 2017.  

John married his beloved wife Michelle in 1983 and adopted her daughter Melinda. Three years later they welcomed their son, Matthew. The family spent a majority of the next two decades in two different homes in Carol Stream, Illinois.

John played baseball in his youth and then softball as a young adult. Once settled down he spent a great deal of his free time tending to his yard and gardening with his wife. He was quiet at social functions until chiming in to charm with a well-timed joke.

John is survived by his wife Michelle, their children Matthew and Melinda, grandchildren Jacob and Justin and two of his sisters Linda and Sharon.  He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Sandra.

Visitation services will be held at Tabor funeral home on Friday June 27th in Brighton Colorado at 11:00am with funeral service at Fairview Cemetery at 1:00pm.
