Joy Ownby, age 79, passed away January 2, 2021 in Boulder, Colorado. Joy was born March 16, 1941 in Boulder, Colorado to Walter and Alice Boyer.
Joy grew up in Gold Hill and Jamestown and was the middle child of five siblings. On May 4, 1967, she married Harold Ownby and moved to Brighton, Colorado where she spent a majority of her life as a homemaker and loving friend to all of her neighbors.
Joy loved working in her yard and garden, growing fruits and vegetables and canning them for the winter. Joy loved to walk and be outdoors. It was common for locals to see her walking along the town streets every day.
She had a passion for reading, giving hugs, angels and caring for her friends.
Joy is survived by her daughter, Janice Ownby and son-in-law David DePew; son, James Ownby and daughter-in-law Melissa; 10 grandchildren: Brandon, Jeremiah, Christine, Andrew, Jonathan, Josiah, Benjamin, Phoebe, Caleb and Micah; as well as, four great-grandchildren: Jace, Colt, Oliver and Zoe. She is preceded in death by both her parents and husband, Harold (July 2013).
Graveside service is at 2:30pm, Friday, January 8, 2021 at Elmwood Cemetery, in Brighton, Colorado.
