It is with great sadness that the family of Juanita Tamayo, announces her passing on November 30, 2022 in Denver, Colorado at the age of sixty. She was born to John Tamayo, Jr. and Mary García Tamayo on April 11, 1962 in Denver, Colorado.
Juanita received her GED from Denver Community College (CCD) in 1985. Juanita went on to receive her Administrative Assistant Certificate from CCD in 1987.
Juanita’s first job after completing course work at CCD, was Bank Western in downtown Denver on the 16th Street Mall. Juanita then went on to work at the State Capital. She worked as an administrative assistant for the Senate Minority Office. Juanita also worked at the Denver Hyatt Regency Hotel as an administrative assistant. She concluded her working career in Denver at the Immigration Law office of Lau and Choi.
Family and friendships were always the center of Juanita’s world. Juanita’s cherished blessing in her life is her daughter, Marie. Juanita and Marie shared love, laughter and a lifelong friendship. Juanita loved her family. She showed her love with her caring and compassion. She was also fierce in protecting her family. She made friends wherever she went and had the knack of making everyone she met feel like family.
Right there with her love of family, is her love of football and the Denver Broncos. Whenever the Broncos played, you would find her dressed in her Bronco gear, head to toe!
Juanita’s favorite place to be was in the kitchen, creating delicious meals for her family and friends.
Juanita lived life on her terms, with no apologies. She is strong and courageous, yet gentle and kind. She kept people rolling in laughter because she could find humor in most life circumstances.
Juanita is survived by her daughter; Marie Tamayo Gillmore of Denver, CO; her sisters; Tina Tamayo, and Linda Tamayo of Brighton, CO; brother; Mike Tamayo (Tammy) of Gilbert. AZ; uncle; Bobby Tamayo (Ruby) of Northglenn, CO; aunts: Esther García Roy, of Denver, CO; Christine García Espiritu, Arvada, CO; Lucille García McCarrick, Laramie, WY; great aunt; Inés Gómez, Lakewood, CO; niece; Chelsea Tamayo Brighton, CO, great nephew, Vicente Tamayo Sánchez, Brighton, CO; nephews; Justin Tamayo, Gilbert, AZ, Jeremy Tamayo (Valerie), Maricopa, AZ; great niece, Emilee Tamayo, Maricopa, AZ; and many cousins and good friends.
Juanita was preceded in death by her parents; John Jr. and Mary García Tamayo; her brother, Frankie Tamayo; her paternal grandparents, John Sr. and Ruby Tamayo; maternal grandparents, John and Andrea García, uncle; Gilbert Tamayo; and many uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
A Celebration of Life honoring Juanita is being planned for June 2023.
