Karen Lee McCarty

Karen Lee McCarty, age 73, of Thornton, CO passed away October 4th.             

Karen was born in Denver, Colorado to Robert and Mary Heinz she was the middle child with 2 siblings. She was raised in Commerce City.

Karen attended Adams City High school where she graduated.

Karen worked for many different company’s before settling into her career at the Adams County Sheriff’s department where she worked for the Detectives division. She worked and had many rolls within the Detectives division. She retired from the county around 2002 to spend more time doing what she loved.

1973 our mom had her first-born Eric Heinz, and in 1984 Travis McCarty was born. These boys were the apples of her Eyes.

Mom was divorced from Roger in 2003 and never remarried but instead decided to care for her grandchildren and spoiled them daily with her love. Mom had 6 grandchildren 5 boys and 1 girl, she was their Nana and loved every second of it. The children were very lucky to never have to go to a daycare but instead spend their days up to school age being spoiled by their Nana.

Mom enjoyed spending time with family, traveling. She took a special trip with her sister. They went on an Alaskan cruise which mom enjoyed so much doing. She recently went on another cruise with her family, her favorite stop was Jamacia she said that was a place she wanted to go back to one day.

Moms’ favorite hobbies were watching Lifetime movies (daily), crossword puzzles, watching Bronco’s football on Sundays, playing with her 2 crazy dogs that she saved from the shelter and cooking.

Karen is survived by her son, Eric Heinz and his 3 sons Taylor, Braaden, and Trevor, and her other son Travis McCarty and Shantel McCarty and their 2 sons Keegan and Easton and 1 daughter Addison. She is preceded in death by both of her parents; brother Robert (Chip) Heinz; and sister Diana Seymour.
