LeRoy E. Johns, 80, of Keenesburg, Colorado, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2026, in Brighton, Colorado, surrounded by his loving family.
LeRoy was born on May 16, 1945, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, and was raised in the Minatare and Melbeta, Nebraska area. He made his home in Keenesburg, Colorado, where he resided for 58 years.
Throughout his life, LeRoy embraced hard work and new challenges. His professional career included working as a school bus driver, propane delivery driver and HVAC technician at VanGas. He also worked as an auto mechanic and later as a large equipment operator for Coors and Waste Management in the Keenesburg area before retiring.
LeRoy is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Karen (Margheim) Johns; his children, Troy (Tricia) of Dallas, Texas; Nancy Gorges of Milliken, Colorado; and Marc of Lochbuie, Colorado; and five cherished grandchildren: Kyle, Emi, Gavin, Trevor, and Alec. LeRoy is also survived by a younger brother.
He was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey and his parents, Walter and Sue Johns and his youngest brother.
LeRoy treasured memories of working at a young age alongside his grandfather on the family farm and in his grandfather’s John Deere shop in Nebraska. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, working on cars, traveling, flying his Ercoupe and listening to books. Gifted with strong mechanical ability, he could fix nearly anything. Even in his final days at the hospital, he continued to bring smiles to the faces of doctors and staff with humorous stories.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
