Our heavenly father took a good man home on Tuesday, December 6, 2022. Lucas was rending aid at a motorcycle accident on I-45 in Houston, TX. Lucas was struck by a car, killing him instantly. The trooper referred to Lucas as being a good Samaritan.
On July 9, 1999, we welcomed our bundle of joy. From that day forward Lucas has blessed our family. Only being 23 years old, he accomplished a lot in just a short life. He had a servant’s heart and put others’ needs before his own. Lucas was very involved with church which led him to hold a position on the Board of Directors.
Lucas grew up in Brighton, CO attending schools in the 27J school district and graduated from Brighton High School in 2017. During middle school, he was a student of Chapel Hill Academy. His favorite classes in high school were automotive and wood shop. He was fascinated with how things worked; he was mechanically inclined and skilled in handling tools and equipment.
As a youngster, Lucas, participated in the Adams County Fairgrounds Pedal Tractor Pulls. He won first place and went to State Championship in Yuma, CO and then onto Nationals in Omaha. He and his sister, Jessica, raised ducklings and showed them at the fair.
Lucas mowed lawns in our neighborhood, shoveled sidewalks and fixed sprinkler systems. At 15, he would do landscape or odd jobs around Denver Truck and Trailer and eventually was hired as a Trailer Mechanic. A couple years later, he expanded his skills of a heavy-duty truck mechanic with Matheson Trucking. Just seven weeks ago, Lucas decided to move to Conroe, TX, and was hired on with Borden Dairy.
He carried a license for water craft and boating along with CDL credentials. Lucas loved being able to captain Papa’s boat and drive semi-trucks. He also took a liking to fishing, setting crawdad traps, hunting, skiing, camping and riding ATVs.
Lucas was interested in Audio and Video and would support Sunday Services, DJ wedding receptions or school dances at the church. Also, he filmed the high school football games for Brighton High.
Lucas is survived by his parents, Paul and Debbie (Brighton, CO), a sister, Jessica, and her fiancé Mike Kawano (Evans, CO), maternal grandmother, Dorothy Reichow (Thornton, CO), paternal grandparents, Augie and Marilyn Wegener (The Villages, FL), aunt Candy, uncle Terry and cousin Cody Powers (Hayden, CO), and uncle David, aunt Leah and cousins Henry and Jacob Wegener (Centralia, WA).
