Madelene Olson Obituary

Maggie was born in Chicago, Illinois to Valerie Hapka and Floyd Christ on January 3, 1947 and had four siblings.  She graduated from Larkin High School in Elgin, IL in 1964.  She found and married the love of her life Robert (Bob) Olson on September 19, 1964.

Bob and Maggie started their life together in Illinois.  Soon after their marriage, their family grew to include 2 daughters, Amy and Shelly.  While raising a family was a joy, she had a flair for hair and beauty.  She attended beauty school and eventually started her own salon in St. Charles, IL.  It was quite successful and continued until 1979 when we moved to Colorado.

The next family adventure began when Bob transferred jobs, which included a move to Colorado in 1979, where they found their home for the next 41 years.  We all want to forget that short stint in New Jersey....smiles.  While in Colorado, Maggie also began new career in Insurance which she enjoyed for many years.

Each home in Colorado, was filled with warmth and love and the most memorable when Bob and Maggie built their dream home in Trinidad in 2001, where they both retired.  Their favorite shared hobby was fishing, and Trinidad Lake met the Olson’s and the walleye population may never be the same!  Their home was visited by so many friends, family and wildlife (bears oh my).    Each visit was met by the hostess with the mostest, Maggie.  She enjoyed hosting, cooking and sharing her home with her loved ones...and we all have so many cherished memories.

While in Trinidad, Maggie found many new friendships and joy in her Church and Community groups.  They revolved around her new found hobbies of quilting, crocheting and crafts.  She enjoyed so many days, nights and weekends with her friends making creations.  Her children, grandchildren and community will treasure the many scarves, beanies, hats, potholders, necklaces, canned goods and filled cookies we have as a remembrance.

Bob and Maggie also enjoyed traveling as a way to celebrate their life and enjoy retirement.  They visited Alaska, Canada, almost all 50 states, Hawaii, Puerta Vallarta, and a Caribbean cruise.  One that Maggie treasured, and spoke of often, was to Washington, where she tried shrimping, crabbing and salmon fishing for the first time.  She was so thankful to enjoy that with her dear friends Mike and Voreen.

Maggie is survived by her husband Bob; Amy and her sons Joshua and Zachary; Shelly her husband Jim and their son Simon; her sister Marge and her family; her sister Arlene and her family; her sister Dolly and her family.  She is preceded in death by her younger brother Fred Christ, her mother Valerie and father Floyd.

All those she touched are honored by her grace, kindness, love and even her occasional touch of sarcasm, the memories we will cherish until we meet her one day in heaven and will again feel the warmth of her embrace.
