Margaret Elizabeth Abegg (1947–2025)
Margaret Elizabeth Abegg, 77, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on December 13, 1947, in St. Joseph, Missouri, to Norman and Theresa (Cronin) Cook.
For decades, Margaret worked at Maxwell Studios on South Broadway, skillfully retouching photographs by hand before the digital age of Photoshop. She had an artist's eye, a trait that extended beyond her professional work to her personal passions. Margaret enjoyed capturing moments through 35mm photography, painting with watercolors, and cultivating colorful gardens in her backyard. She loved to read and would finish multiple books a week until her eyesight made it difficult.
Margaret’s Catholic faith was a guiding force throughout her life, providing strength during both joyful and difficult times. She found comfort and inspiration in the lives of the saints, and her deep spiritual conviction shaped her character and actions. Margaret passed on her values, compassion, and faith to her family, leaving a lasting impact on those she loved.
A lifelong animal lover, Margaret rescued and cared for many pets over the years, always providing them with a home filled with love. She leaves behind her most recent beloved dog companions, Ivy and Willow.
Margaret is survived by her husband of 47 years, Joe, and their three daughters: Kathleen Abegg (Jeff Leitch), Emily McLennan (Joe), and Theresa Cross (Zach). She was a devoted grandmother to seven grandsons and two granddaughters, all of which carry on her warmth, kindness, and creativity.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Norman and Theresa Cook; her sister, Patricia; her brother, Mike; and her niece, Katie.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a local animal shelter in her honor.
