Margarete Humphrey

It is with profound sadness that the family of Margarete Humphrey, 85, of Denver, Colorado, announces her peaceful passing on July 7, 2026 at home in the presence of her daughter. 

Born April 13, 1941 in Heilbronn am Neckar, Germany, she was the daughter of Maria Ehehalt and Hermann Josef Adolf Zeller.  Margarete grew up in uncertain times amidst the challenges of war and polio. She graduated with a Masters of Photography and worked for many years alongside her father in the family photography business.

In 1970 she married Joel Humphrey, a U.S. Army military man stationed in Germany.  This prompted the move to Joel’s home in Denver, Colorado.  As a mother, Margarete was patient, dedicated, and loyal.  She taught confidence, resilience, and humor.

Marga, as she was affectionately known, enjoyed gardening, hand crafts like cross stitch and sewing, but was most well-known for her signature knitted socks which she shared generously.  She loved to travel and was a bonus mom to many of her daughter’s friends.

She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Annette Humphrey (the late Burt Charron); her sisters Erika Zeller (Andreas Wybraniec), Gisela Zeller Steinbrich (the late Wolfgang Steinbrich), her brother Klaus Zeller (Hillary Prescott); and her wide circle of friends who loved her dearly.

A Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Saturday, August 29th at 10:30 a.m. followed immediately by the Funeral Service at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 2626 E 7th Ave Pkwy, Denver, CO 80206.

Family and friends are then invited to gather for an open house reception from 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.  This gathering will be held at the home of Annette Humphrey, located in Arvada, CO.
