Mariana Josephine Miera (Pinard) born on July 25, 1942 in Raton, New Mexico, passed on June 14, 2024. Her family initially resided in Plainview, Colorado where she attended a one-room schoolhouse for her early years of school in 1949. The family later moved to Brighton in 1959, attending Brighton High School and met her first husband.
She married Tom Castaneda, and they were long time residents of Brighton, having six children. She returned to finish high school in 1976 and walked with the graduating class to get her diploma, and later obtained an Associate of Arts degree.
Mariana made many family traditional recipes like green chile with homemade tortillas with her children and carried on the tradition of tamales and Biscochitos at Christmas time. Her recipes and traditions will continue to live on in the next generations. As her children grew older, she worked in 27J Schools in nutrition services and as an education paraprofessional in Fort Lupton schools. She built a career working in early childhood education at various Brighton daycare centers.
In 1990, Mariana married Lazaro Miera and enjoyed a lifelong partnership with the love of her life. Throughout her life, she loved fishing and camping in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. She traveled nearly every year with her husband to New Mexico and especially loved going to the Hot Air Balloon Festival in Albuquerque. Some of her lifelong hobbies included arts and crafts such as ceramics, crochet and Tri-chem.
When her husband, Lazaro Miera, died in 2019, Mariana moved to Phoenix to be closer to two of her sons. She was actively involved in the local senior center and led a coloring and craft group for seniors at Mountain Park Church. She moved back to Brighton in 2022.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Lazaro Miera and her daughter, Linda Marie Castaneda; her parents Tobias and Delia Pinard; her brother David Pinard and her granddaughter Olivia Miera and grandson Dominick Chacon.
She is survived by sons Tom (Debbie) Castaneda; Robert Castaneda, Kenny (Tonja) Castaneda; David (Michelle) Castaneda and daughter DeAnna Castaneda, a stepdaughter Roxane (Juan) Chacon and stepson Gabriel Miera. Grandchildren are: Melissa Hamilton, Cassandra Castaneda, Andrew Castaneda, Kaitlin Castaneda, Christopher (Kelley) Castaneda, Cassie Barnett, Casey Castaneda, Marcus Gutierrez and Isabella Gutierrez, Destiny Chacon, Samantha Chacon, Alex Chacon, Emiliano Chacon, Angelo Chacon, Gabriel Miera Jr. and Sierra (Cody) Nygaard. She is survived by five great grandchildren with two more on the way. She is also survived by a sister Rosanna Vigil of Brighton.
A Rosary will be prayed on Tuesday June 25, at the Tabor Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 26 at 10 a.m. at Tabor-Rice Funeral Home in Brighton. Burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery.
