Mary Ruth Ames, (Watrous), a beloved wife, sister, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 12, 2026.

Mary was born in Denver, CO, on March 31, 1935 to Sam and Bessie Watrous. Mary was the second of five siblings: Donna, Mary, Ralph, Harry and Cathy.

Mary married Clifton “Ernie” Ames on April 18, 1954. She leaves behind her three children; a daughter, Jan, and two sons, Gary and Jim. Mary worked some accounting jobs early on in life but realized she wanted to be a stay-at-home mom, and raise her kids. Mary did go back to work when the youngest, Jim, was older. She worked at a doctor’s office then at an accounting firm as a receptionist/book keeper.

Mary’s faith was paramount in her life. As members of the East Side Baptist Church in Denver, Colorado, when the doors of the church were open, the Ames family was there. Mary continued to be strong in her faith her whole life. She found a church in Las Vegas when they retired there for a decade, then became members of Elmwood Baptist Church in Brighton when they moved back to Colorado.

Her hobbies always consisted of sewing and quilting. Having grown up in a generation where the clothes she and her siblings wore were handmade by her their grandmother. Mary spent much of her childhood learning from her grandmother, how to sew and quilt. She made clothes, mostly for Jan, then when her children got older and married, she started a tradition of making them quilts as wedding gifts. These quilts started with the three children, and then became a labor of love for her grandchildren on their wedding days as well.

The Ames family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Brookdale Brighton Assisted Living, where Mary spent her last 4 ½ years. Their staff always treated her with great care and respect.

Mary’s memory will forever be cherished by all who knew her. She was known for her kindness, having a strong faith in God, and love for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mary is now with her Lord and Savior in eternity!
