Mary Ellen Barlow
Mary was born in Altoona, Wisconsin to Maynard and Doris Lewis and was the youngest of two children. She married her late husband Lonnie Barlow in March of 1976.
She trained and worked as a beautician after graduating from Altoona High School and marrying her first husband George Mathews. Her first two children Keith and Wendy were born during her first marriage.
She met her second husband Lonnie Barlow in Stevens Point, WI and moved with him to Colorado where her children Jason and Jessica were born.
She ran a daycare center in her home where she touched the lives of many young children. As her younger children got older, she decided to work outside the home and was hired at the local King Soopers grocery store. She started working as a Courtesy Clerk, helping customers by sacking their groceries and retrieving carts. She moved up in the company to restocking shelves and then working in the Bakery. She took an early retirement from King Soopers to care for grandsons Mathew and Michal during the time their mother was deployed overseas while serving as an officer in the U.S. Army. Upon her daughter’s return from overseas duty, she reentered the workforce at Walmart where she worked until she fully retired.
Mary lived in the home that she and her husband built on Van Aire in Brighton, C0 since 1992. Here she raised her youngest two children and helped raise her grandchildren Mathew and Michael. Spending time with family and friends was her favorite activity, and she found great joy in taking care of her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed doing water aerobics and spending time with her friends.
Mary is survived by her children, Keith Mathews, Wendy Composto, Jason Barlow, and Jessica Barlow, and two stepsons Andrew and Anthony Barlow; and six grandchildren, Emily, Lillian, Mathew, Michael, Oliver, and Theo. She is preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie; both her parents; her brother Geraldine; and her grandson Evan.
