Mary Kaye (Grossman) Hermanson, age 70, passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2025, in Brighton, CO.
She was born to Beverly Dumas on April 11, 1955, in Fargo, ND, and soon adopted by George and Lorene Grossman of Dickinson, ND. She was welcomed by an older sister, Darlene, completing this family of four.
Mary Kaye was raised in the Dickinson area, graduating from Trinity High School. She continued her education, earning an Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice, Bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and Criminal Justice, and Master’s degrees in Human Resource Development and Management. Throughout that time, she was a licensed substance abuse professional, working in North Dakota, Colorado, and Wyoming.
She married Ardin Hermanson in 1976, immediately adding a step-son, Trevor, and step-daughter, Carla, to her family. They soon added a daughter, Sara, and a son, Tate. Ardin and Mary Kaye lived together in Williston, ND; Aurora, CO; Casper, WY; and Brighton, CO. They were married 45 years at the time of his passing in 2022.
Mary Kaye is survived by; step-son Trevor (Melissa) Hermanson, step-daughter Carla (Lynn) Horob; daughter Sara (Darrell) Higgins; son Tate (Phylicia) Hermanson; sister Darlene (Cliff) York; three biological siblings, Russell, Sharon, and Debbie; twelve grandkids, Amber, Tanner (Danielle), Tyler, Tucker, Lakin, Trista, Logan, Maelin, Kaylee, Addyson, Brooks, Ainsley; six great grandkids, Bella, Mason, Connor, Kash, Kamron, Elijah; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Mary Kaye is preceded in death by her husband Ardin Hermanson, mother and father George and Lorene (Rohr) Grossman; birthmother Beverly (Dumas) Edgar; and in-laws Mae (Tofte) and Lyle Brockmier and Carl Hermanson.
Mary Kaye’s favorite hobby was playing the slots in Blackhawk, CO and Deadwood, SD. She loved the machines with the big action screens and loud bonus rounds, especially the Buffalo ones which featured a man saying “BUFFALOOOOO” and a cartoon of loud stampeding buffalo when the reels lined up just right.
Music was a big part of her life during her teen and early adult years; she had a beautiful singing voice and played piano. She especially loved Bette Middler, Carole King and Elton John and was excited to see “Beautiful: The Carole King Musical” in Denver in 2018, and Elton John in concert in both Laramie, WY, and Denver, CO.
She always had a way of making life-long friends and was still in touch with her high school friends 50 years after graduation. Mary Kaye was always very social and loved to go out for a meal with friends or family; it didn’t matter what else was on the agenda for the day’s outing, she always wanted to make time to “do lunch”.
Mary Kaye’s ashes will be scattered in Blackhawk, CO at sunset on Sunday April 19, 2026.
