Nina Schloo

Nina Alice Schloo was born Feb. 28, 1929, in Denver, Colo., to Benjamin A. and Marian Esther (Flint) Ginther. She passed away Jan. 31, 2018 at the age of 88 years and 11 months.

The youngest of three children, she grew up on the farm in the Eastlake area southwest of Brighton, Colo. She was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church on March 22, 1937, along with her father and brother, Ben Jr. Nina attended the East Lake School for 2 years, completing grades 1-3 in those 2 years. She then attended Zion Lutheran School in Brighton through 8th grade and was confirmed into Zion Lutheran Church by Rev. Kretzschmar. She graduated from Brighton High School in 1946.

On April 6, 1947, she married Delford Schloo, also of Brighton. It was here that they established their home and raised 5 daughters: Carla, Merrilyn, Louise, Ellen, and Maureen. Nina was a diligent homemaker and was active in the organizations of Zion: Ladies’ Aid, Club, Circle, and the Good Shepherd Home Auxiliary (now Bethesda Home).

When Del retired from the family owned business, Schloo’s Clothing store in Brighton, Nina and he enjoyed their new business, The Glass Station, in which they bought, sold, and traveled to do shows dealing with Depression glass and other collectibles.

Their youngest daughter, Maureen, died in a car accident on March 17, 1989, at age 26. Del died of a heart attack on October 25, 1997, at the age of 69.

Nina remained in her home until September of 2014, when she moved to the assisted living facility, Inglenook of Brighton. She moved to the Reflections memory unit of Inglenook in May of 2016.

Nina was preceded in death by her parents, husband Del, daughter Maureen, sister Virginia Bundy, brother Benjamin Ginther, Jr., grandson Nate Weber, and son-in-law Charlie Leibbrandt.

She is survived by four daughters: Carla Weber (Greg Berwick) of Peyton, CO, Merrilyn Leibbrandt (Terry Martin) of Imperial, NE, Louise Bennett (Steve) of Grand Junction, CO, Ellen Schloo (Melissa Wicker) of Brighton; 8 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

The service for Nina will be Feb. 20, 2018, at 11:00 at Zion Lutheran Church in Brighton, officiated by Rev. David Schilling & Rev. Christian Rasmussen. Tabor-Rice Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
