Patricia (Pat) Vaughn, 86, passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday morning, May 11th, 2025.
Pat was born on Dec 15, 1938, at home with a midwife in Furnas County, NE on the farm. She was the first child of Lloyd “Bud” and Winifred “Winnie” (Jones) Hahn.
Her childhood in Nebraska and then Kansas was filled with fun on the farm with cousins and grandparents. Sundays always started with her family attending church and then spending the afternoon at either the Hahn Grandparents in Norton, KS or the Jones Grandparents in the Lexington/Gothenburg, NE area. Pat met Johnie her sophomore year of high school at the skating rink and wrote letters to him while he was away in the army. After graduating Valedictorian from Almena Rural High School in 1956 Pat and Johnie became engaged. They married on August 26, 1956, at the Presbyterian Church in Calvert, Kansas and made their first home in Norton, Kansas. On October 30, 1956, Pat and Johnie moved to Aurora, Colorado.
In January of 1963, Pat and Johnie moved to Henderson, CO where they began farm operations and developed the business Vaughn Excavating and Construction now known as Vaughn Concrete Products. Starting out of a small area in their house, they grew their business into precast concrete manufacturing with a dedicated office and three production facilities located in Henderson, Colorado, Amarillo, Texas, and Cheyenne, Wyoming. In 1988, they had the 14th plant in the United States to become certified by the National Precast Concrete Association (NPCA). Pat worked side by side with Johnie, taking night classes and reading to learn accounting and tax preparation. Over the years, she wore many hats such as owner, irrigator, bookkeeper, and tractor driver. In 2019, Pat retired from the business but remained a constant sounding board.
Pat's dedication to her business was only exceeded by her dedication and love for her family. While she worked all the time, her children and grandchildren never felt as if they came second. Balancing grandkids in multiple states and even more activities Pat seemed to make it to every single important event. She was known for calling a grandchild after surgery, hearing their timid voice and jumping on a plane to be with them in the hospital, and even traveling out of state to look after great grandkids. Pat loved to travel and would often make her family the destination or invite a grandkid along on one of her trips. Up until the last four years, Pat made it to every college, every college graduation and every home of her kids and grandkids, no matter the distance.
Pat was a woman of strong faith. She was an early member of the Brighton Presbyterian Church and was a current member of the Henderson Community Church. Pat was one of the first members of The Homemakers 12” Club” started in the 60’s. The women met once a month and focused on service projects until 2020. In addition, Pat served as a 4-H leader, taught Sunday school and was active in the PTA. Only possible to such a capable woman, in her spare time Pat was a voracious reader, collector of rocking horses, lover of flowers and cats.
She is survived by her three children (below) and her sister Karen (Marvin) Stumpe.
Cindi (Rob) Rule, their children; Jennifer (Brian) Brenneman and their children, Sam and Beckett; Tyson (Amber) Rule and their children; Madison, Makenzie, and Maverick.
Alan (Lynnette) Vaughn, their children; Amber Vaughn, Mat (Jalane) Vaughn and their children, Adalynn, Alden and Axton.
Mike (Karen) Vaughn, their children; Adam (Taylor) Vaughn, Ann (Scott) Ritchie, their child Madeline; and Sydney Vaughn.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd “Bud” and Winifred “Winnie” (Jones) Hahn, Stepmother Lois Hahn, sister Linda Anderson, nephew Scott Anderson, and her husband of 67 years, Johnie.
Those who knew Pat will remember her by her unwavering faith and trust in God. This love was seen in action as she was known for her kindness and often had an uncanny knack for seeing what people truly needed and meeting that need without even being asked.
