Patrick Alarid Obituary

Patrick Alarid, 77, died on Thursday, November 18, 2021. He was born on March 9, 1944 in San Francisco, California and was the fourth of ten children born to Jacob and Angelita (Maldonado) Alarid.  Shortly after his birth, Patrick moved with his parents and was raised in Brighton, Colorado.

Patrick was a beloved brother and friend to many, and a passionate poet, writing poems from a young age and continuing throughout his life.  He loved to praise, honor, and worship God through his love of singing and was a member of the Holy Name Catholic Church Choir, St. Augustine Catholic Church Choir, Light of the World Catholic Church Choir, 5280 Encore Chorale (Littleton), and St. Mary’s Catholic Church Choir.

Patrick belonged to the St. Joseph Society and Holy Family Society at St. Augustine Catholic Church and belonged to the Legion of Mary at St. Mary’s Church.   In 1957, he became a Charter member of Father Weakland Circle No. 1042, Columbian Squires of Council No. 3285,  and was a Third and Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus member.

In 2018, Patrick followed his dream and moved to Walsenburg, Colorado, which was the birthplace of his mother Angelita Maldonado Alarid.  He talked of the many beautiful memories at Grandma Sinforosa and Grandpa Amarante Maldonado’s farm in Walsenburg, Colorado.  He loved to view the spectacular Spanish Peaks (also know as the Wahatoya Mountains), from his front porch.  His mother, Angelita Alarid, said the farm was a little slice of heaven, and Patrick believed that also.

Patrick was very passionate for life.  He was highly successful as a Master Drywall Finisher who taught many friends and family his trade, a restaurateur, business owner, barber, and realtor.

Patrick is survived by his brothers and sisters Jacob Alarid, Paul Alarid, Juanita Tanguma (Mel), Orlando Alarid, Aaron Alarid (Wendy), Dominic Alarid (Francis), and Andrea Lucero (Gerald); his children Larry (Diana) and Shawna; grandchildren Lexi, Larry, Serena; great-grandchildren Julian, Johnny, and Jace; and Goddaughter Emma Rose. His parents, brother Tom Alarid and sister Symfy Gallegos preceded him in death.

The Rosary and Mass for Patrick will be held on Thursday, December 2, at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 178 South 6th Avenue, Brighton, Colorado. The Rosary starts at 12:30 PM with the Mass starting at 1:00 PM.  His internment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Brighton, Colorado.
